Failure of The League of Nations
The League of Nations was formed in 1919. Its purpose was to promote world peace, but was a failure and one of the causes of WWII. The League did not always stand up for weaker countries and this showed dictators like Hitler and Mussolini that they could do what they wanted to and get away with it.
The League of Nations failed for these main reasons:
1. Many countries did not join for various reasons including
A) The US - It was their idea but a newly elected US government decided not to join.
B) Russia was not asked to join due to a fear of Communism.
C) Germany was not allowed to join.
2. The League could not stop non-members countries from trading with aggressive countries. Then the Great Depression forced many countries to trade with each other.
3. The League had no military force.
4. Ther League met infrequently and was often slow to act.
